If you've started looking into wrinkle-smoothing injections, you've probably noticed there isn't just one product anymore. Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify all do the same essential job, but they aren't interchangeable. Here's how they differ, and how we help patients choose at Summit.
All three are injectable forms of botulinum toxin type A. When placed precisely into a muscle, the toxin temporarily relaxes it, softening the lines that form when you frown, squint, or raise your eyebrows. They're most commonly used in the upper face — the "11s" between the brows, forehead lines, and crow's feet around the eyes. Done well, the result is a smoother, more rested look, not a frozen one.
The differences between products are mostly about how each is formulated, how quickly it kicks in, how far it tends to spread, and how long it lasts. None of these is a magic upgrade over the others; the right choice depends on your anatomy, your goals, and how your body has responded in the past.
Botox Cosmetic is the most widely used neurotoxin and the one most people have heard of. It has the longest track record, a predictable onset of about three to seven days, and results that typically last three to four months. For many patients it's a reliable, well-studied starting point, and its precision makes it a workhorse for small, detailed areas.
Dysport is also well established and tends to have a slightly faster onset — some patients notice results in two to three days. It diffuses a bit more from the injection point, which can be an advantage for treating broader areas like the forehead with a soft, even finish. That same spread is why precise placement by an experienced injector matters. Its duration is broadly similar to Botox, generally three to four months.
Daxxify is the newest of the three and is notable for its potential to last longer — studies have shown results persisting around six months for many patients, though individual experiences vary. For people who like their results but dislike returning every few months, that longevity can be appealing. Because it's newer, we'll talk through whether it's the right fit for you rather than treating it as an automatic upgrade.
Honestly, the product matters less than the person holding the syringe. A skilled injector assessing your facial movement, muscle strength, and goals will get you a better outcome than chasing a particular brand name. That said, a few patterns we see:
Treatment itself is quick — usually 10 to 15 minutes — with little to no downtime. You may have small bumps or minor bruising that settle within a few hours to a couple of days. Because full results take several days to appear, plan your appointment at least two weeks ahead of any event you're getting ready for, so everything has time to settle and any tweaks can be made.
