By the time August rolls around in Southern Oregon, most of us are carrying the visible evidence of summer — sun exposure, a few extra freckles, maybe some lingering redness from the wildfire smoke that settles into the valley this time of year. It's also, somewhat counterintuitively, the smartest time to start planning laser treatments for the fall. Here's the reasoning behind what our team sometimes calls "fall laser season," and how to think about timing your own appointment.
Treatments like CO2 laser resurfacing and CoolPeel work by creating controlled, precise injury to the skin's surface to stimulate new collagen and smoother texture. During the days to weeks it takes to heal, the treated skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet light than usual, and sun exposure during that window can interfere with healing and, in some cases, lead to uneven pigment. That's why providers generally recommend avoiding significant sun exposure for some time after a resurfacing treatment.
Medford's UV index and daylight hours start dropping noticeably from September onward, which makes early fall a more forgiving window for healing than the middle of summer. Booking now — while you're already thinking about it — means you can get on the schedule before the fall rush and time your treatment (and any downtime) around work, travel, or events already on your calendar.
Not every laser or light treatment requires the same amount of downtime, so the right choice depends partly on how much recovery time you have and how much correction you're looking for.
Many patients combine approaches over a few months — for example, a resurfacing treatment in early fall followed by lighter maintenance sessions — rather than trying to solve everything in a single visit.
Because skin type, sun exposure history, and goals vary so much from patient to patient, we don't recommend a specific laser treatment without seeing your skin first. At a consultation, our aesthetics team evaluates your skin's condition, talks through what's realistic for your goals and your schedule, and builds a plan — including whether a single treatment or a series makes more sense for you.
Whatever treatment you and your provider land on, a little preparation goes a long way:
Fall laser season fills up quickly once the weather turns, and treatments like CO2 resurfacing are often booked several weeks out. If you've been considering addressing summer sun damage, texture, or overall skin tone, now is a good time to get a consultation on the calendar.
